Jan Frodeno sets new Ironman World Championship record in Kona

Jan Frodeno is the 2019 Ironman World Champion. Frodeno began the day with a front pack swim of 47:31 in his Tsunami 1.0 Speedsuit. Once out on the bike Frodeno stayed in the front group until 160k when he broke away to be first into T2. On the run Frodeno continued to grow his lead, while many of his competitors wilted in the heat. Jan Frodeno ran a race best 2:42:43 to set a new Ironman World Championship course record of 7:51:13.

Matt Russell finished in 17th in 8:22:18. Russell’s day started out strong with a 52:23 swim is his Tsunami 1.0 Speedsuit. Russell was in the hunt for a top 10 after a 4:17:26 bike, but struggled to find his pace on the run. The 2019 Ironman World Championship was the 2-year anniversary of Russell’s horrific crash at the 2017 race, and Russell said, “I reminded myself that this race is a celebration of the gift of life and it made me smile on the run regardless of not having the day that I wanted.”

In the pro womens race Daniela Ryf started her day with a front pack swim in 54:20 in her Tsunami 1.0 Speedsuit. Unfortunately a lingering illness hampered Ryf all day, but she fought to finish 13th in 9:14:26.

Laura Siddall finished in 25th in 9:42:52. For the swim Sid wore a custom Tsunami 1.0 Speedsuit that featured message of good luck from fans, as well as Hawaiian themes.

Congratulations to all the athletes who raced the Ironman World Championship over the weekend.
